Text Box: Why Family support? When someone suffers a trauma either through serious injury or illness, the families of the injured may suffer many effects also: Families can struggle to come to terms with the injury. Sometimes they suffer unexplained grief for the loss of a loved one even when they
survive. They can become frustrated when the legal process seems to disregard their needs. Confused by legal terms and definitions during a compensation case. Children can struggle to accept/come to terms with the “new” person in their lives. Partners can struggle to accept the injured person as they are now. Why use Life Resolutions? Founder of Life Resolutions Christine Whiting originally worked as a lawyer advising people of their rights. As her interest in helping people evolved she pursued a new career in social work supporting families & victims of road traffic accidents. Even with their lives in chaos, Christine witnessed first-hand that with the right support, families managed to get their lives back on track and lead a near “normal life” again. Have someone advocate their views when necessary. Have someone to act as mediator when needs conflict. Learn new coping strategies Unfortunately courts do not recognise in compensation settlements the emotional trauma that a family goes through when they effectively lose their loved one to a brain injury, and it is often difficult for the family to come to terms with what the courts lawyers and other professionals think is best for their family member and their needs. Life Resolutions family support service has been designed to compliment not replace the injured party’s professional team and support their overall rehabilitation. By helping to resolve conflicts of interest and thereby reducing the stress and anxiety within the family, we help keep everyone moving forward in the same direction. Our service to you. With our extensive experience in both the legal and social care fields Life Resolutions family support service tries to seek the middle ground from the wants and needs of the courts, client and their family so that everyone effected can get on with their lives. Using a unique combination of motivational social work, life coaching and brief solution focused therapy, a Life Resolutions support officer enables family members to move forwards with their lives, thereby moving the injured client forward too. Families are helped to re-learn their coping strategies and taught some new ones. We also provide advocacy support whilst families adjust to working with the new professionals in their lives. The service can be purchased by case managers, solicitors other professionals or the family direct for one-off assessments and interventions or we can offer regular therapeutic sessions.
