Text Box: Independent social work

Life Resolutions provides an Independent Social Work service accessible to members of
the public and professionals alike. We provide expert assessments to be utilised by
individuals, families, courts and other agencies; to help parties work together to make
appropriate decisions about an individual’s or family’s future. We specialise in working with
adults who have long term health conditions. We can provide Independent assessments of
practical and therapeutic need, and detailed risk assessments.

With increased pressure being placed upon local services – due to government-set
budgets and targets, population increases and our aging society (to name but a few
factors) – local authorities are having to consider more creative, cost effective ways to
provide people with the care and support they may need.

What are the advantages to you in using Life Resolutions?

We are completely independent. We are not constrained by eligibility criteria,
so we can truly look at your needs and provide creative solutions for your
situation.
We have a wide skills base and expertise in different fields from acquired brain injury, adult services to community drugs teams.
We can provide expert assessments for you the courts or other agencies.
We are already well placed for the introduction of personalised budgets.
We can help you with the new self-assessment and planning tools to be introduced.
We know about all of the types of benefit available and aim to get them for you.

Let us help to tip the balance of the scales in your favour

Our Independent Social Work service is strengthened by the skills base of our
extended team, and can be utilised in conjunction with our Family Support service and
our counselling service.

As personalised budgets are rolled out across the country, we are already in place
as an established life management team, and are available to provide you with
professional guidance and support when dealing with access to care and support
services.

The Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE) published research in 2007, taking into account consumer satisfaction evaluations in relation to personalised budgets. The study found that for many groups, the increased choice in access to services and personalised support planning promoted by the pilot schemes was ‘overwhelmingly successful and empowering for many (service user) groups’ (SCIE, 2007).

we can help you cope with the new self-assessment and planning tools that are being introduced, and can assist you in managing your personal budget. We are here to help you make the most of your life, and of your money! We can help you effectively interpret the adult care system being offered by the government, and access the right services to suit your needs - helping you exercise your new-found choice and independence.

If you have any questions about how we can help you or your family please call us on (01449) 612262 for an informal chat about anything you have a question about

Advocacy

An advocate is usually appointed by an individual in order to support that person to voice their thoughts, feelings, values and wishes. Sometimes, an advocate will challenge on their client’s behalf decisions made by organisations or agencies which are not in accord with the opinion of the client. This is not in a bid to cause conflict, but to ensure that the individual’s views are taken into account.

At Life Resolutions, we believe in acting in the best interest of the client to ensure that they have access to the full range of services and benefits to which they may be entitled. This could be in relation to disputes with providers of social care, over medical practice or perhaps legal issues. We will endeavour to ensure that your needs are recognised and addressed.

We can also offer advocacy services to those experiencing, for example, problems in their working lives; maybe you are facing difficult issues in relation to your employer? It will be our role as advocate to help you respond to these issues and make sure that you are receiving adequate support, have opportunities to have your opinions heard, and, for example, have access to appropriate records.

It will be our aim to assist you to the best of our ability to manage what are often challenging, stressful situations more effectively, and work towards resolving any disputes.

Professional supervision

All qualified social workers have a responsibility to maintain their professional registration through continuing professional development and supervision. Unfortunately this is sometimes difficult when you work for an independent organisation, for yourself or for an agency. Even if you work in the statutory sector it can be difficult with increasing case loads.

Life Resolutions offers professional social work supervision to individuals and organisations who wish to ensure their continuing professional development.

Christine Whiting Is a state registered social worker, practice teacher, mentor and a freelance lecturer on social work practice for the University of East Anglia.

Depending on availability we offer Professional supervision either face to face at our offices, at your place of work (travel costs will be incurred) or over the phone.
