Independent social work service

Why independent social work?

For many years, social care provision has been dominated by statutory social care services, for

adults, children and families. You may have personal experience of working with a social worker or

support practitioner who is employed by a local authority.

However, with increased pressure being placed upon local services – due to government-set

budgets and targets, population increases and our aging society (to name but a few factors) – local

authorities are having to consider more creative, cost effective ways to provide people with the care

and support they may need.

Life Resolutions can provide an Independent Social Work service accessible by members of the

public and professionals alike.

We can provide expert assessments to be utilised by individuals, families, courts and other agencies;

to help parties work together to make appropriate decisions about an individual’s or family’s future.

Our specialism is working with adults who have long term health conditions. We can provide

Independent assessments of practical and therapeutic need, and detailed risk assessments.

What are the advantages to you in using Life Resolutions?

· We are completely independent. We are not constrained by eligibility criteria, so we can truly look at your needs and provide creative solutions for your situation.

· We have a wide skills base and expertise in different fields from acquired brain injury, adult services to community drugs teams.

· We can provide expert assessments for you the courts or other agencies.

· We are already well placed for the introduction of personalised budgets.

· We can help you with the new self-assessment and planning tools to be introduced.

· We know about all of the types of benefit available and aim to get them for you.

Our Independent Social Work service is strengthened by the skills base of our extended team, and can be utilised in conjunction with our Family Support service for families affected by a brain injury suffered by a loved one, and also our talking therapies (including brief solution focused therapy, life coaching and trauma cure).

As personalised budgets are piloted and eventually rolled out across the country, we are already in place as an established life management team, and are available to provide you with professional guidance and support when dealing with access to care and support services.

The Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE) published research in 2007, taking into account consumer satisfaction evaluations in relation to personalised budgets. The study found that for many groups, the increased choice in access to services and personalised support planning promoted by the pilot schemes was ‘overwhelmingly successful and empowering for many (service user) groups’ (SCIE, 2007).

Many people don’t get the help that they need either financially or in services simply because of the bewildering array of forms to fill in and the benefits (means tested and non means tested) available. We do, and we can help you cope with the new self-assessment and planning tools that will be introduced, and can assist you in managing your personal budget. We are here to help you make the most of your life, and of your money! We can help you effectively interpret the adult care system being offered by the government, and access the right services to suit your needs - helping you exercise your new-found choice and independence.
